4 yr. old-Christmas in America

We finally got to celebrate Christmas in America after learning about other children around the world. We read "Twas the Night Before Christmas," sang Christmas carols and made Christmas trees with sugar cones, frosting and candy.

3 yr. old-Ruby's Birthday

Ruby celebrated her 4th birthday on December 21. Happy Birthday, Ruby!

3 yr. old-Igloos and Icicles

What better way to learn about the letter I than building igloos with sugar cubes and frosting?!!! We were plenty sugared up by the time we left. We snuck more than few sugar cubes into our mouths!

Christmas Village Field Trip

We went on a field trip to Christmas Village. Mrs. Santa (or Mrs. Claus) took us to lots of little houses that had fun Christmas scenes. We also got to visit Santa's Castle and get a bag of treats. Unfortunately, Santa wasn't there. But we knew he was getting ready for Christmas.

3 yr. old-The Gingerbread Man

We read many different versions of The Gingerbread Man but they all said, "Run, run, fast as you can, you can't catch me, I'm the Gingerbread Man!"

4 yr. old-St. Nicholas Day

We celebrated St. Nicholas Day just like the children in Germany. We learned about how the children put their shoes out filled with hay for St. Nicholas' horse. St. Nicholas fills their shoes with treats and gifts. We dressed like St. Nick and made a St. Nick (or Santa) with our hand.

4 yr. old-St. Lucia Day

In Sweden, St. Lucia Day is their festival of lights. Early on St. Lucia Day, a young girl of the family dresses in a long, white robe with a red sash. On her head is placed a crown of greens, with lighted candles. She goes from room to room, waking the family and serving them coffee, cakes and Lucia buns flavored with saffron. Boys, called star boys, wear long, white shirts and pointed hats. They help carry the sweets.

3 yr. old-St. Nicholas Day

Children in Germany receive a visit from St. Nicholas on the night of December 5. St. Nicholas is a tall bearded man who wears a bishop's robe and hat. He travels on a white horse. Children leave their shoes out filled with hay for the horse. In the morning, their shoes are filled with gifts and treats.

3 yr. old-Bree's Birthday

Bree celebrated her 4th birthday on December 5. Happy Birthday, Bree!

3 yr. old-Animals in Winter

We learned about what different animals do in the winter. Bears and other animals hibernate, fox and other animals stay awake because they know they'll still be able to find food, squirrels and other animals store food before winter, and some birds fly south. But other birds stay around in the cold so we made a bird feeder with bird seed for them to eat.
